1. Promoting responsible use of Marine and Coastal resources
2. Protecting and advocating issues affecting marine environment
3. Researching in Maritime and Coastal zone in order to address conflicting uses of the resources and manage effectively
4. Carrying out capacity building and engage with local communities
5. Coordinating with local, national, regional & global organizations to develop strategic policies in maritime and coastal zone
6. Giving advice to government, private and voluntary organizations in Maritime affairs and Coastal Zone management.
7. Promoting integrated management & ecosystem management in Marine and coastal areas.
8. Resolving conflicts arising from uses of the ocean and coastal areas
9. Improving coastal community livelihoods
